What is a neighborhood?
Youth explored questions about the Riverside neighborhood that were of personal interest to them, from flowers, to the home front of World War Two, to youth violence. They also collaborated to produce a “Neighborhood Change Survey,” using different research methods to document the neighborhood at a time of physical change - including a major street redesign and the rebuilding of a school and playground that many of the youth knew well.
Their final exhibition, “Between the Boundaries,” finished the summer where it began: by asking where was Riverside, anyway? Their final projects were immersive and showed us all that Our Riverside was an experiment worth repeating.
The work from 2015 was documented by lead educators Diana and Nicole on a Tumblr page. Visit it here.
